All activities at Indie Outdoors are as 'genuine' as possible. Rock climbing is on real rock, caving in a real cave filled with real mud, off-road biking is either across the moors or across fields, woods and around streams, canoeing and windsurfing take place on a big local lake not a practice pond. All our instructors are enthusiastic about their sports and are genuine participants themselves. They are professional freelance instructors not teenagers or volunteers and they know their sport and the area very well.
We use SPA qualified instructors to lead all rock climbing groups and in house trained and experience rock climbers as assistants. They know the various rock climbing areas well and can therefore choose a location based on weather, the group's experience and how busy the crag will be. This is an exciting activity and with the growing number of climbing walls individuals can take it up as an activity in their own time.
We use extremely tough equipment which is regularly checked by Indie herself and which surpasses all regulatory requirements.
We use rock climbing instructors for abseiling as well. It can take place as a separate activity from a 100ft viaduct or can be combined with rock climbing where it takes place on the same crags used for the climbing. This is a great activity for building confidence and self esteem.
Caving is a great sport, it's much easier than people think and it takes you into an exciting world underground which can involve crawling through muddy holes, walking along passages and into chambers with stalactites and stalagmites.
We use a specialised watersports centre located on a large local lake. Professional and experienced safety staff are on hand and a safety boat is always ready. Participants can choose to try windsurfing or canoeing or can even try both. Wetsuits and buoyancy aids are provided.
A team activity involving figuring out how to build a raft from barrels, wood and rope provided and then rowing it across a small lake or river. This activity can be combined with several other initiative tasks into a 'treasure hunt' style half day. Buoyancy aids are provided
A team activity involving setting up a rope system across a high gorge and then pulling team members across the gorge attached to the rop via a climbing harness. Can be combined with various initiative tasks to create a 'treasure hunt' style half day of activities.
Just a fun exercise really as most groups are not ready for an arduous day of steep uphill climbs and fast downhill. We take the bikes into the woods and test them out on the rough terrain between the trees. We then take them onto an open field for some races and time challenges and a chance to show off if you know any tricks.
A timed navigation exercise where teams compete to complete a circuit across the Moors and through the woods whilst finding numbered posts around their route. 1:15000 maps and compasses are provided.
Small groups are taught how to use a map and compass and then set off across the Moors with various places they must find along the way. Not timed like orienteering and on a much bigger scale. 1:25000 maps and compasses are provided.
Initiative tasks involve a number af timed activities which groups do in teams with the aim of working together to develop their group skills.
